Supporting the Oxford Union and its Library

Central to the Union’s ability to retain our independence are our historic grade II* listed buildings, such as the world-famous Old Library and Debating Chamber, as well as other rooms where debates and interactive speaker meetings take place. The loss of our buildings, however temporary, would pose a serious threat to our ability to operate independently and with legitimacy. Unlike colleges and other higher education institutions, the Union does not receive taxpayer funding.

We have therefore launched an Urgent Appeal to raise £5M in order to carry out essential maintenance works to prevent the closure of the buildings.
